During our trip through Europe we visited Lake Bled at the beginning of June and honestly, it was one of those places that exceeds expectations. I went with my wife and son, and we had a spectacular day: completely clear sky, ideal temperature and a perfect environment to enjoy the water and tour the area.
One of the first points in favor is that there are several paid parking lots distributed around the lake, so, although in season there can be a lot of movement, it is not difficult to find where to leave the car.
The lake is surrounded by a path that runs along practically its entire coast. It is a very pleasant walk, completely flat and with incredible views in each section. As you walk you will find different viewpoints, sectors to rest and several gastronomic places where you can eat something or simply have a coffee overlooking the water.
For those who want to enjoy the lake from the inside, there are several private spas with all the services. However, at one end of the lake we found a free public spa that surprised us a lot. It has lawn spaces to rest, very clean water and different points from where people jump into the lake. On a warm day like the one we had, the place was full of families and groups of friends enjoying the water.
Another of the most recommended activities is to rent a boat. We saw several rental points with prices ranging from 20 to 35 euros, depending on the type of boat and the place where it is rented. It is completely worth it, as it allows you to walk around the lake with peace of mind and reach the famous island of Bled.
The island is, without a doubt, the great symbol of the lake. There is the Church of the Assumption of Mary, which is accessed by climbing a historic staircase of 99 steps. One of the most well-known traditions says that the bride and groom must carry them together to have a happy marriage. Inside the church is also the famous "Wishing Bell", which, according to tradition, grants a wish to whoever rings it with real intention. In addition to the church, the island has small trails, a café, a souvenir shop, and great views towards the lake and the Julian Alps.
Although we usually associate Lake Bled with summer, seeing that by the beginning of June you could fully enjoy water activities was a pleasant surprise. The weather was good throughout the day and made the visit one of the most beautiful memories of the trip.
If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be to dedicate at least half a day to it, although a full day allows you to walk around the lake calmly, sail to the island, enjoy a spa and sit down to eat in front of the water without having to look at the clock.
Lake Bled has that hard-to-find combination of nature, tranquility and activities for the whole family. It was one of those places that you leave thinking that if you ever come back to Slovenia, you will probably come back to Bled too.
