Santiponce

Places in this note Seville

Just 10 km from Seville is Santiponce, a destination to visit if you like history. I walked from Seville and returned by bus, which leaves you right at the entrance, in front of the canal.

In Santiponce, the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Italica, founded in 206 BC, are preserved. It is considered one of the first Roman cities established outside the Italian peninsula. Emperor Trajan was born here, and she was also closely linked to Hadrian.

Its great attraction is the amphitheater, one of the largest built by the Roman Empire, with a capacity for about 25,000 people. It is possible to walk both on its stands and on the sand. In addition, this amphitheater was chosen to record scenes from the Game of Thrones series, where he represented the Dragon Well.

If you are in Seville and have half a day, Santiponce is a different kind of excursion that combines history, archaeology and one of the best-preserved Roman sites in Spain.
